I D-ecisions

Considering the overall story of Anne and David in Crooked River Burning, I think my second essay will be on how our decisions (good or bad) help to form our identity. Think about it, most of how we come to know ourselves is through choices. Do we go to church on Sunday? We’re a good Christian. Do we blow off friends to hang out with some boy? We’re a bad friend. Do we steal a piece of candy from the corner store and feel guilty or not? We’re a thief or repentant in the making. Life is full of choices. (Wait! Is that a cliché?) If we play close attention to the choices we make and look for patterns, we can start to make the decisions we want to get us where we’re going.

  1. This a great, uncommon topic. Not only do decisions make our identity, but we can choose to change our identity by changing our decisions. I would really enjoy reading this essay because at its heart I believe it tells us that identity is something that we create, not something that creates us. I look forward to hearing how it develops.

  2. I too find this take on identity quite interesting and thought provoking! I wish I would have thought of it! I agree the choices we make are our own and they do in fact shape who we are, how we are seen or precieved and effect how we live our lives. Such an intriguing subject. I too would like to have the opportunity to read your essay!

  3. This topic is very interesting. I think that choices that we make can also put labels on us. Like you previously stated if we steal we are a thief and ect. I think that our identity is constantly changing because of these choices we make. Are we always making the same choices over and over? Probably not. We are always presented with different obstacles in life and it is always a huge decision making process! For example attending college and where to attend it at.
